Welcome to the Council on Alberta Teaching Standards website.

The Council on Alberta Teaching Standards (COATS) website is an invaluable resource for those involved with, or interested, in education. The COATS website was developed to improve the availability of information about the work and role of COATS to both teaching professionals and Albertans. It provides information about teacher professionalism, teacher preparation and certification, teaching quality, standards for teaching practice, teacher professional knowledge, and competencies (knowledge, skills and attributes) for quality teaching. The website also has information for individuals concerned about a teacher's teaching practices or conduct.

What's New

This Month: This month’s What’s New is the final in the series of seven COATS’ What’s New items that were offered to support the attainment of the interim and permanent certification requirements (KSAs) associated with the Teaching Quality Standard (#016/97). The focus for June is Professional Learning Communities.

This newsletter provides information about professional learning communities (PLCs) including descriptions of PLCs, how they can be implemented and sustained, and their impacts on education and education stakeholders.
